桂林研究员主要从事液态金属微流体、生物传热传质以及微传感器方面的研究工作。主持编写国内首部相关专著《液态金属微流体学》。首次提出将液态金属用于片上温度控制领域,提出基于液态金属的微加热器以及镓铋微热电偶测温技术;研制出尺寸仅为100微米的微电渗泵,并将其进行集成形成微泵簇;研制出基于液态金属的可植入的微血压传感器、高精度微流量计以及眼压传感器,其中眼压传感器精度达到国际领先水平;牵头承担千万级别科技部重点研发计划课题“医疗用压力传感器与微泵及芯片级异质封装集成研究”,研制出世界首个非机械驱动的植入式给药微系统,项目结题获得科技部“优秀”评价。
